Anacortes Pee Wee Basketball - Mara, Kya, Olive
After gymnastics with Mara
While Kya and Seth were at the Daddy/Daughter Dance, Ryker and I went to a Skagit Valley College women's basketball game.
All dressed up!
Ryker didn't sit with me for very long....
After his friends cleared out, he came back to sit by me for the second half. We sat right behind the guys keeping stats and running the scoreboard because he was really interested in what stats they were keeping. He caught 2 shirts that were thrown out to the crowd. We were going to give one to Kya, but they happened to be his size and mine! After the game we went to Big Scoop to meet up with some of his friends. We were having such a good time, that I was hoping Seth and Kya were too. I would have felt bad if their night wasn't as great as ours.
When we got home, they had just pulled in. Kya was tired so they left early, but had a fun time. Kya had been trying to get Seth to practice his dancing the whole week leading up to the dance. She thought he should learn the Whip it, Nae Nae dance to the Silento song for sure. He kept telling her that he didn't need to practice and it all made sense after the dance. She told him that she thought that "Daddy Daughter Dance" meant it was a competition and each Dad and daughter were going to get on stage and dance for the crowd. She thought he was going to embarrass her by not knowing any good moves! Haha, too funny. Luckily, he didn't embarrass her. Those days are right around the corner though, I'm sure.....for Seth anyway. I'm sure they'll never be embarrassed by me.
Ryker wore his new shirt to school on the Monday after the big game.
Edison chicken parade....yep, that's a chicken riding a horse.
First year playing in a league
Go #8!
We always have at least one major malfunction while Seth is gone. This winter it was the security system malfunctioning for 3 nights in a row. Never during the day, always at night! I had to wrangle the kids into my room the first night after practically smashing the alarm in there because it was blaring so loudly upstairs. They laid in there with earplugs while I fiddled with the keypads, poked a stick at all the fire alarm buttons, flipped off breakers (damn battery back up!), and finally for no reason at all would get it shut off. Then I would spend my days calling the electrical company that installed it, the manufacturer, and anyone else that would listen to me. They all listened then referred me to someone else. Seriously, no one can tell me what this error means!? Finally, after reading the manual cover to cover (not specific to just our unit) and not finding the error, I went to the Internet and found a user group that informed me to replace the back up battery. Apparently, about every 5 years they just sketch out and give all kinds of crazy errors on the keypad instead of the LOW BATTERY error that it is supposed to give!
He's really into basketball now that he gets to play games. This is a picture he drew of the outdoor court at Edison.
Kya is less than thrilled about attending all of Ryker's sporting events and practices. He better never complain about going to anything she is participating in!
Grandma Vi wanted to see all his medals from wrestling so he wore his uniform to her house. What a ham! Of course, she loved it.
This came home on the back of one of Ryker's worksheets. The little shit better tell me where he planted that tree!
Off season BP
Making her Valentines.
We love you more than Legos.....that's about as good as it gets, because they LOOOOOOVE Legos.
I'm not sure what kind of danger I'm in, but it's good to know help is on the way!
They secretly made these card in the play room and hid them under Kya's bed until Valentine's day. I'm glad they are getting good at surprises. They're kind of my specialty so I'm thrilled that they are starting to get into it.
So the last one was no mistake. The little butthead meant to make "sister" into "sisterd". Yes he thought it was hilarious. Kya's to him, was of course, nothing but kindness, but she did find his funny.
#2 is especially true and recognized by most people that. That little girl is constantly loving life. She's honestly a ray of sunshine most of the time. Ryker is always remarking about how happy she is.......singing, dancing, smiling, talking to herself.....even when he picks on her, she just packs up and moves on.
He always says he's jealous of how she's never worried about anything. That and how fast she can fall asleep. Apparently, those are her two greatest strengths according to a 7 year old. Haha.
Every once in a while I see an old person (my age) with an old jersey from when they were a kid. Obviously, the kids are going to end up being Hawks fans since they live in Washington so I've been trying to figure out who's going to be the Steve Largent of their era so I could buy jerseys so they'd have original throw backs when they are older. I had a few in mind, but I wanted them to retire as Seahawks not finish out their career with another team. Luckily, Lynch retirement rumors started circulating long before he made the announcement so I was able to get a jersey before the price went up and they stopped making them.
Hopefully he likes his Christmas present in 15 years (wish me luck in being able to locate it then). I couldn't find a women's one so I'm still on the hunt for Kya. We'll see if she has a favorite player emerge in the next couple years.
Ryker's worm/composting box he made at his Allen Grange science class.
3D art they made in our craft room. Pretty proud of whatever these are.
Our favorite local magician, Elliot Hoffer. He had a bunch of new tricks at this show.
Ryker is infatuated with huskies so we talk a lot about the Iditarod. Last year, they used some of their "giving money" to sponsor a dog. The money actually goes to help fund Kelly's trips to provide dental care to underprivileged kids so it was a win, win for us. The kids got to donate some money for a good cause, but it had a fun aspect to it. They loved the suspense of waiting to see if their dog, Shane would be chosen as one of the dogs to pull the sled that year.
Welcoming March by taking a Wocket in their pockets on Dr. Seuss' birthday!
I love that Ryker can now write and has a sense of humor that matches mine. I about died when I opened my bathroom door and saw this....first from the fright of seeing someone on my toilet, then from laughter after reading his note. Well played little man, well played.
Trampoline Zone!
Finally, something healthy has a box top! My kids hate box top contests because they only ever have a couple to turn in. If you're reading this, start saving your box tops for us!
Ryker is dreaming of camping season and it's only the beginning of March.....
